My Internet was down yesterday so I couldn’t post Friday’s Feast or Friday Night Movie. Each will return next week.
Embedded is a video. It’s about writing. It’s silly. But it does prove a point about writing mistakes – repetition of words and over describing.

Most book ideas are recycled right? Some are poor imitations of classics and others poor imitations of poor imitations. It’s our job as writers to put a new spin on existing ideas. So our success as writers is based on how well we can dress up stolen ideas. Well, not quite, but sort of.

Last week I decided to step away from the computer and write Mija freehand. I thought that the change might give me a different perspective. I rarely type. I usually use Dragon NaturallySpeaking. This method works for me because I’m able to close my eyes and just talk. The pictures in my mind’s eye are vivid. The scenes play in my mind. The characters come to life. And when I want to backtrack, I’m able to “rewind” mentally. It’s a different writing method that most, but this is one of the reasons I believe my writing is authentic.
Writing freehand didn’t work for me because I censored myself more than I normally do. Also, I never read what I write because I want to wait for the editing process. With the freehand method I had to reread everything so that Dragon could type the scenes. As a result, I edited some.
But there was something I liked about having the pencil in my hand and scribbling on a brand new notebook. I like that feeling enough to give freehand another try.

Okay, I’m looking for a sound machine. Does anyone know where I can buy one? I’ve tried Target and Kmart but each only carry “spa machines.” Those machines don’t appeal to me because the noises are of water and I get the urge to pee. I want a simple machine that provides white noise only. The internet has a few, but I want to go into a store a buy one. I’m notorious for not returning items I bought on the internet. Can anyone recommend a sound machine from a particular store?
