Self-Editing for Fiction Writers

editig.JPG

I just ordered a copy of Self-Editing for Fiction Writers. The book is supposed to be one of the best on the subject of editing. When I receive my copy, I will post my thoughts here. The book has a chapter on editing interior monologue. Though I’m sure the other chapters will be invaluable as well, that’s the chapter I’m looking forward to reading the most.

I’m also hoping that while I write my first draft, the tips I pick up from the book will make the first draft stronger than it would have been otherwise.

I’ve secured an interview with a professional editor and will post the interview in the next couple of weeks. If any of you have any questions you’d like me to ask the editor, email me or post them in the comment section. And of course, if you have any tips for me I’m all ears.

Subscribe to the Write Free E-Newsletter

makeascene.JPGJordan E. Rosenfeld, author of Make a Scene and contributing writer for Writer’s Digest, dropped me a quick note regarding her monthly newsletter, Write Free. After reading the synopsis on her website, I signed up. Perhaps you will find her newsletter helpful as well. Click here to sign up.

I copied and pasted the following info from the Write Free website.

It’s impossible to put a value on creativity, though most would agree it’s one of life’s essential functions. The Write Free E-Newsletter is a monthly cornucopia of insight and guidance on how to attract a creative life and keep it thriving! It dawned on us recently that not only do we want you to Write Free, but to receive this powerful newsletter FREE as well! So, from this point forward, you can subscribe to the Write Free E-Newsletter for FREE by filling out our contact form. You can tell friends, offer it as a gift and pass it on to anyone who is interested. We will offer you articles, books, and workshops at reasonable prices, but please enjoy the newsletter at no cost to you.

The newsletter is a creative collaboration between Rebecca Lawton and Jordan E. Rosenfeld, the authors of the forthcoming book, Write Free: Attracting the Creative Life (Kulupi Press/Beija Flor Books). The Write Free newsletter offers you more than news; each year’s subscription brings 10 issues full of insights, activities, and open-hearted inspirations on how to attract the creative life.

Note from me: Jordan asked me to inform everyone that the content of the newsletter has changed slightly from what is posted. The website is in process of an update.

Calling 2008 Debut Authors

make-a-scene.JPGIf your debut book is due to be published in 2008, Jordan E. Rosenfeld from Writer’s Digest magazine is looking for you. Her column, First Impressions, features first time authors (in all genres).

Jordan only needs debuts for the October and December issues. That means if you want to make it into the October issue, your book must be published between August and December, 2008. For December, October 2008 and February, 2009. All books must be published through a traditional publisher.

Contact Jordan at Jordansmuse(at)gmail(dot)com.

Btw, Jordan recently wrote a book by Writer’s Digest Books, called Make a Scene. Pick it up at your local bookstore or order it through amazon.com.
