This Isn’t Goodbye

miguel.JPGEarlier this week I posted a dialogue I had with a friend of mine where I mentioned that writers write because they have something to say to the world. I stand by that statement, but I’d like to expand on my thought.

Writers sometimes don’t realize the impact that their words have on their readers. This is the case with Michael Watt.

Miguel, as I like to call him, writes a weekly column for LongIsland.com. Or should I say used to. You see, he found a new job and retired his column, Banging the Drum. This saddens me for many reasons - most of them selfish.

Every year on Father’s Day, Miguel recycled a tribute column he wrote about his father called Don’t Worry, Just Juggle. The reason I remain struck by this piece is because Miguel’s experience allowed me to see my father in a way I never saw him before – human.

That’s the power of honest writing. It engages you. It moves you. It transforms you.

Thank you for sharing your life with us, Miguel.
