Friday Night Double Feature: Sixth Sense & Beautiful Mind
Back in the day, Tata and I saw Sixth Sense. Though I can’t stand when people eat in the theaters, I was starving and was munching on nachos as I glanced at the movie screen.
When the movie finished, Tata turned to me and said, “How did you know?” The only response I had for her is this: As I mentioned earlier this week, I love to read. The biggest drawback to reading a lot is that I’m really good at determining ending to books and movies. All creative writing has similar nuances. And it’s not hard to figure out the endings if you know what to look for.
I was also able to figure out the movie Beautiful Mind. This time I wasn’t at the movies, but rather in the living room full of other people. At one point during the movie I said, “This guy is nuts. None of this is really happening.” Everyone turned and looked at me. “What?” I asked knowing full well what I did.

A U R I A : Get thee to my blog. You some splanin’ to do, Lucy.
okay, i’m headed there. Bloggers if I don’t return, Diane had something to do with my disappearance. Her comment is, well, somewhat threatening. What did I do?
Diane - You know you have witnesses!
Auria - Damn you for figuring out the 6th Sense. Even though I knew there was this big surprise ending, I didn’t see it coming the first time I took my daughter to see it. Of course after the first viewing you have to go back and watch it again, knowing what you know, and it all seems so obvious. Good marketing strategy, though.
I’ve been accused of ruining movies for others too- although, I don’t think I’m as quick as you are.
I’m curious if you saw “Hide and Seek” yet with DeNiro?
I just saw it and did not figure it out ’til about 3/4 through when it finally seemed obvious, but our guest believed something else ’til the end. It is one of those movies like 6th Sense or Matrix that is interesting to re-watch scenes once you know and wonder how you missed it the first time. I recommend it if you haven’t seen it.
oops, I didn’t read Doug’s statement first and I kinda reiterated a similar point.
Erika and Doug - I’m pretty good at putting two and two together. In the case of Sixth Sense, I believe the promo that played influenced me. The one where the kid says, “I see dead people.” So when Willis was shot, I instantly knew.
I haven’t seen Hide and Seek. I’ve never heard of it. I’ll see if Netflix has it.
