Self-Editing for Fiction Writers
I just ordered a copy of Self-Editing for Fiction Writers. The book is supposed to be one of the best on the subject of editing. When I receive my copy, I will post my thoughts here. The book has a chapter on editing interior monologue. Though I’m sure the other chapters will be invaluable as well, that’s the chapter I’m looking forward to reading the most.
I’m also hoping that while I write my first draft, the tips I pick up from the book will make the first draft stronger than it would have been otherwise.
I’ve secured an interview with a professional editor and will post the interview in the next couple of weeks. If any of you have any questions you’d like me to ask the editor, email me or post them in the comment section. And of course, if you have any tips for me I’m all ears.
I have an editing list at http://lmashton.com/2007/12/on_editing.html that you can check out. Hopefully, it’ll help.
This books looks interesting. Lemme know your thoughts when you get it.
FYI, I posted my Thursday Thirteen.
Aaron, I just read your Thursday 13 (http://aaroncrocco.wordpress.com/2008/01/24/thursday-thirteen-129/). My favorite is #8.
I’ll participate next week in Thursday 13 next week.
Laurie, thanks for the link. I checked it out. You have great advice there. Everyone should read what you posted.
That’s one of the best books for writers out there. Every writer even contemplating fiction should have it on their shelf. (Please, please, dear gods, for the love of slush pile readers, perhaps one day every writer will have read this book and taken much of its advice to heart.)
Good on yer to pick it up!
Hmmm. Someday I gotta write a review on it.
BTW, the book’s also been invaluable to help me analyze fiction in terms of writing technique. This means I get more out of every fiction book I read (and even non-fiction). Tres cool.
I’ve owned this book for years. My own copy is full of underlined passages and scribbled notes in the margins. It’s truly a winner.
